Our Application...

Our staff are trained in all methods of application and across the full intumescent range. We will select the right equipment and product for each site, ensuring a quality finish and minimising time on site.

Site Conditions: Similar to other intumescents, the steelwork must be dry before and during application, Heatshield Waterborne WB does dry well in covered damp conditions i.e. Under a canopy. Blistering and wrinkling will occur if the coating is exposed directly to rain or water. We will require that the Relative Humidity is<80% and the steel and air temperatures are >5°C.

Preparation of Surface: The steelwork must be clean, dry and have a sound primed finish. The compatibility of the primer and Heatshield Waterborne WB should be checked with us prior to starting on site. Subject to certain criteria, even previously painted steel can be treated, without the need to sandblast - our Technical Department can advise.

Methods of Application: Although this will be generally by spray, alternatives of brush and roller may be used if conditions dictate or limited access exists. Of course with a waterborne product there are no Health and Safety problems with other site or client personnel.

Specialist Coatings UK use an extensive range of spray equipment. The units will generally be self-sufficient and therefore the need for the supply of compressors will not occur. We carry out trails on all new equipment to ensure that we can produce the most efficient application as well as producing the best possible finish.

Finish Coat: This should be applied where environmental conditions demand it. Colours from the full standard ranges can be specified from our compatible waterborne coating, giving you unrestricted choice match or compliment the general colour scheme.

Control of Coating Thickness: We will constantly control and measure the wet film during application to ensure the correct and uniform thickness are achieved. However, the final proof that the specification has been met will be provided by comprehensive recording of Dry Film Thicknesses by our our Supervisors. A written record and verification that the specification has been met in all areas are available from us in our Endorsements Statement.

Availability: As we keep a large stock of our own materials, we are able to start on site within 48 hours or at a time to suit your needs. The only restriction would be specials or a non-stock RAL colour, which we make to order.
